What London asks of you

London bookings cluster in Mayfair and St James’s, where most of the private clubs sit inside a ten minute walk of each other. This is the largest register we keep, so a booking made the same afternoon is often workable.

The city runs on membership. If your evening starts somewhere you hold the membership, mention it when you book. House rules on guests differ, and some clubs still want the guest’s name ahead of the night.

The busiest stretch runs from the November charity calendar through to the new year. Dates in that window usually go three or four weeks ahead of time.

Districts

Where bookings happen

Geographic references rather than recommendations. We do not name venues or hold arrangements with them.

Mayfair

Most first bookings happen here. Short walking distances between dinner and a drink after.

St James’s

Club territory. Dress codes are enforced at the door rather than politely suggested.

Belgravia and Chelsea

Quieter dinners and private residences. Popular for smaller parties.

The City and Canary Wharf

Corporate hospitality, awards evenings, and post-conference dinners.

Local etiquette

Worth knowing

  • Black tie is read literally in London. If the invitation says it, your companion arrives dressed for it.
  • Inside the congestion zone a black cab usually beats a private car. Give the driver the cross street, not just the postcode.
  • Central restaurants release unclaimed tables quickly, so build slack into the journey rather than the reservation.
  • Tipping is discretionary and often already added. Check the bill before adding to it.

From London

What clients say

I had a partners’ dinner in Mayfair and no interest in explaining for the fourth year running why I came alone. Aurelia knew the names of everyone at our table before we sat down. Two colleagues asked me afterwards how long we had been seeing each other, which I took as the review.

Partners’ dinner, London

My sister’s wedding, two hundred guests, and a mother who has opinions. Marcus remembered every aunt by name and never once broke the story we agreed on. I have never had an easier family weekend.
